It means at some point it was in an accident in which the repair costs were high enough that the insurance company just decided to pay you for the car, rather than fix it.
but if the repairs were done right, than a 50% discount might be worth it.

usually it means the vehicle was totaled by an insurer, and the title is “branded” as such. In Michigan you can’t register a vehicle with a salvaged branded title unless it’s repaired and passes an inspection, at which point it gets issued a “rebuilt salvage” title.
